Tonight I present to you the story of my hubby, the moose whisperer. Yes my friends, I found out today that Mikey has another woman.
Mike’s job involves driving all across Ontario installing Florida rooms, mostly on trailers in private campgrounds. Today he ended up in the Bala area, which is west of Gravenhurst, Ontario. As he left his job site, he turned onto the main road, only to find Miranda Moose meandering across the road. He slowed down hoping to be able to grab his camera and snap a picture, but to his utter disappointment she continued across the road and into the bush before he got his hands on his camera.
This is when his new found skills decided to make their appearance. Mikey put the window down and began speaking in fluent mooseneese, grunting seductively, hoping that Miranda would hear him from within the woods. To his utter amazement, Miranda slowly came out of the bush, stood on the side of the road, and looked intently into his deep brown eyes, a look of unbridled passion on her face. When she noticed the camera in his hands, she dutifully posed for her portrait, and Mikey obliged. Unfortunately, another car approached soon after and Miranda took off once again, leaving Mikey feeling lost and alone. It was a very special moment that I’m sure neither of them will ever forget, and the bond they developed was very strong. Maybe one day they will meet again!
And you were wishing it was you behind the camera weren’t you 😉
Damn right!! I’m so jealous LOL.
Hahahaha! LOL! I can just see the lovelight in Mikey’s eyes and the Moose’s! There is no accounting for true love. 🙂 That is a great shot too!
LOL!!! Now I just have to figure out how to win his love back :).
Great shot.
Thanks! I’ll tell Mikey that you liked it :).
Whoa! He should have made a recording of his invitation for her to return; that could have gone viral and you’d have serious trouble trying to re-distract his attentions (and those of the other females within hearing range). What an opportunity, and what a fine way to take advantage of it! She’s really a beauty, too. No wonder he went to such great effort to attract her attention. Kudos to you, Mike–and you get at least half the credit; you get the rest, Cindy, for inspiring him to embrace this fabulous art-form!
Oooh, you’re so right Gary!! I will have to remind him that he never would have taken such an awesome shot if I hadn’t inspired him to get a camera a couple of years ago for Christmas and take up photography. I agree that a video would have gone totally viral, so I guess I’d better teach him how to use the video function on his camera that I’m sure he doesn’t even know he has LOL!
Wow that’s a terrific capture. Mike’s got quite the talent…I think you’ve created a monster 🙂
You have no idea LOL!! It’s a constant competition now when we are out with our cameras. He is always saying, “my shots are way better” :). Thanks Edith.
At least the other woman in his life has 4 legs and I’m sure not as beautiful as you.. I would love to have read the story if you had of taken the photo… cause it is a beautiful shot that only a man could have got… LOL
You start off by sweet talking me with the “beautiful” comment, and then you switch over and say it’s a shot only a man could have got. Oh Bulldog, you’re walking a fine line!! LOL 🙂
What a handy talent for Mike to have! In NW Ont, during rutting season, the male moose will chase your vehicle if you have your headlights on!
I’d like to see them chase Mike, not his vehicle :). Imagine the spectacular photos that would result LOL!!!
One of my favorite animals. I’ll be super impressed if he tracks one down in London for us. Tell him nice shot for me.
Thanks, I will tell him that you liked it (he has been anxious to hear people’s comments), and I will also tell him that his new mission is to track down a moose in London :). Can’t you just see him creeping through Trafalgar Square grunting out his moose calls?? LOL
While you are snapping hundreds of photos of pigeons.
LOL – ya that’s right 🙂
it’s a tip that we regularly used in Zimbabwe with a variety of game and birds, the noise we always used i guess would spell something like pshhhhh or an extended version of Caeser Milan’s cshsh. I think the idea is to incite the animals curiosity in a non threatening way. Give it a go sometime
Awesome!! We often drive around trying to find wildlife to photography, so we will have to try that. Unfortunately, there’s not near as much wildlife around here as there is in Zimbabwe. I would go nuts there with my camera :).
yeah, umm, I grew up in a big(ish) city it was not that different to any other big city. it works on birds too though
Ok, we’ll have to try that 🙂
Wow that’s so cool!! It’s like something out of a Disney movie and I loved the way you described it. 😀
Also I’ve never seen a moose before so this is really intriguing, I never realised they had such funny shaped noses…or necks…or backs! LOL.
Yes, it was a lot of fun composing this post last night :). And Mikey was so excited after he got the picture that he had to phone me right away at work to tell me the story. Moose are quite the amazing creatures, and they can be incredibly huge, especially the males. This one is actually quite small compared to some, and in northern Ontario, you have to be careful when driving because if a moose runs out in front of your car, you car is totalled!!!
my husband, the cat whisperer, would be duly impressed by this. a great photo–so it runs in the family, does it?
He likes to think so LOL!!! Actually, he would probably tell people that he taught me :).
A beautiful girl indeed!
I wish I had been with him because I have never had such an up close and personal experience. I have only seen them from afar.
From Texas to Ontario, I with my deer and he with his moose. Now it’s your turn.
Okey dokey, I’m on the lookout :).
