It’s Mother’s Day, and I have had a fabulous weekend! Yesterday I spent the whole day with my best friend, and we met Susanna Kearsley, an amazing author that I only recently discovered. This morning I had a nice chat with my Mommy by phone since she lives 4 hours away. Then my hubby, the kids, and I went out for lunch, visited Mike’s mom for Mother’s Day, and then went to see the movie, Iron Man 3, which was fantastic :). Plus my boys gave me gift cards for Chapters (a book store), so I can get some new books (you can never have too many right?). Now Mike and I are relaxing and watching the Survivor finale on TV. What an amazing day with the ones I love!
However, there was one thing that put a damper on my Mother’s Day. We knew it was going to be quite cold and rainy this weekend, but I really didn’t expect to wake up to snow on May 12th!! Yes, I really did say the “S” word. I must say, Mother Nature is not my favourite mother today. I had put my hanging baskets in the garage in case there was frost and had covered my geranium baskets with towels, but we drove home from the movies today in blowing snow, and when we got home we ran around putting the geraniums in the shed and covering the few flowers that I had planted already.
Here are a few pictures of what we had to face today, including one of Mikey defying Mother Nature, if only for a split second LOL!
I hope that all of you mothers out there had a fabulous Mother’s Day full of love and laughter :).
Happy Mother’s Day. We didn’t get any snow in the city but there were a few moments of hail. Not fun and I must say your hubby is brave!
Same to you :). When we were running into the theatre, the snow felt like little needles being thrown at us. It actually hurt!! LOL
This is a great post Cindy! I especially like the photo of Mikey defying nature! Hahahaha!
Glad your Mother’s Day was so much fun. Mine was quiet but the kiddies sent me a beautiful begonia and called from all the way in California. I sat in the sun, went for a walk with a great friend, and had caramel chocolate chunk ice cream for desert while watching “Selfridge” tonight. Who could ask for more? 🙂
After having met him, I’m sure you’re not surprised that Mikey did that are you?? It sounds like you had a wonderful day too, especially with the caramel chocolate chunk ice cream. Yummy!!! Happy Mother’s Day to you my friend :).
I am so in sympathy with you in the face of your new snowfall–it’s almost the middle of May, and this should be well behind us now. But Mikey has the right idea–laugh in its face and take advantage of the opportunity to do so. Good for him-and you! So break out the union suits and keep each other warm. It surely can’t be long now…
Yup, Mother Nature isn’t going to get us down!! You know what is really ridiculous? Snow on the ground today and freezing temperatures, but it is going to be 24 Celsius on Wednesday. How crazy is that? No wonder people keep getting sick!
Hate to mention this but we had record breaking high temperatures in Los Angeles today, 88F in my part of town but over 100F in some areas! I don’t know which is worse, too hot or too cold… I don’t do well either way. I enjoyed the photo of your geraniums under cover…. at least my geraniums are not complaining about the weather….
I’ll be on the next plane!! I love heat, and I would take a heat wave over snow any day :).
You have to admit, if you put your flowers out already then it’s going to snow! You just have to be more patient. You better not be seen by your neighbors or they may lynch you!
LOL!! They haven’t blamed me yet, but you could be right – I’d better watch my back. I’m going to blame it on the people who already took their snow tires off. I can’t blame myself because I don’t use snow tires LOL!!
The photo of Mike ‘snow-baking’ on the lounger is priceless. I’d have that one framed and hanging in a very prominent position in the house.
It is funny isn’t it? We like to be a little crazy around this house – it keeps us young :).
Good legs there Mikey! Glad you had a good day–I got books and a Chapters card too–they know what we like! It was cold here too–had to turn the heat on–but no snow.
Yes, they do. I’m so excited because I want to get the new Dan Brown book that comes out tomorrow! I can’t remember if I told you or not, but I also bought a new book on Saturday called Perdita by Hilary Scharper. You should look it up because the setting is the Bruce Peninsula. It’s getting really good ratings. By the way, we got more snow overnight – the ground is totally white again – and Bryan just had to clean off his car to go to work :(.
When we left Malaysia yesterday it was in the 90s and humid. When we arrived in London it’ was cold and overcast. Where the heck is spring?! I’m glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Have you been staying out of trouble?
Nah! It’s awfully boring to stay out of trouble :). I’ve been pretty busy overall, but last week, believe it or not, it was hot and sunny here, so I spent every spare moment out on the deck reading and actually started on my tan. I just have to ignore the snow on the ground for a couple of days because apparently it’s supposed to be back to 24 Celsius by Wednesday. This weather is absolutely crazy!! Did you have good weather overall on your trip?
I take it you weren’t hit by the wall of ice. What a horrible event. 24 sounds nice. We won’t reach that for sometime, if ever here. The weather in Malaysia was hot, humid, and wonderful.. Usually I don’t like the combination, but it was pretty pleasant actually. The day we left it seemed much hotter and slightly miserable, but I was on my way to the airport so it didn’t effect us much.
I had no idea what you were talking about at first, and then I googled “ice wall” because you know how much I love Google :). What a freak disaster that is! After seeing that, I guess we got off pretty easy. By the way, now they are only saying 19 for Wednesday, but at least that’s better than snow.
Whoa! Snow!?! Yikes! Somebody up there has a rather ironically bewildering sense of humor I’m guessing.
Glad you enjoyed your day though!
Thanks Phil :), and I’m thinking more like a mean streak than a sense of humor LOL!
You could be right about that. 🙂
Noooooo not more snow!
I find it so weird that you guys have mothers day on a different day to us in the UK, it seems weird odd that it isn’t a universal day! It always sends me into a panic when I see bloggers talking about it because I think I’ve forgotten it, but then I remember we have mothers day in March!
Your pictures make me think of icing sugar on top of a cake, because it’s such a thin coating. 🙂
Loving the vouchers too, any idea what book you’re going to buy?!?! 😀
I had no idea that your mother’s day was on a different date. I guess it doesn’t matter what date though as long as we celebrate mothers everywhere :). I like your description of icing sugar on cake because that sounds a lot better than snow! As for books, I just placed my order for two books that are being released soon. Yayyyyyyy!!! The first is Inferno by Dan Brown which I am really excited about because I love his books. The second is And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. I have never read any of his books before, but I hear they are always fantastic, so I went for it!! The best part is that they were both on for half price as preorders ($15) which is awesome for hardcover.
By the way, did you have your exam yet? How was it? Maybe you are out celebrating right now.
Haha it does sound better than snow doesn’t it? 😛
Yes it was yesterday, I’m all done now and will be moving out of my halls for good later in the week, which is crazy because it feels like I’ve only just put my stuff in here, lol. I’m going to celebrate tomorrow probably, for now I just want to relax. 🙂
Oooh I haven’t read any Dan Brown yet, I have Digital Fortress, Deception Point, Angels and Demons andThe Da Vinci Code but I have yet to pick any of them up, LOL! I’ve never heard of The Mountains Echoed, hope you enjoy!
Congrats!! You deserve some relaxation. Lots of reading I assume?
Dan Brown is an amazing author, and I am excited about And The Mountains Echoed because people just rave about his work. I read so many fantasy novels that sometimes I switch over to something entirely different for a break. Right now I am reading Perdita by Hilary Scharper, who is a Canadian author. You should check it out on Goodreads – what an original plot :).
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Glad you had such a wonderful Mother’s Day…sorry about the snow 😦
You may be sorry about the snow, but I’ll bet you’re still laughing at Mikey’s picture aren’t you? 🙂
Yes….Yes..I..Am..
Thought so LOL!
I want to be back in the South Pacific!
Take me with you this time 🙂
That sounds like a fabulous weekend!!! But oh my – snow? that is just plain bad luck!!! Murphy really had his knife in for you!! 😉 **
Yes, he certainly did! However, it has all melted now, so I have stopped crying LOL! Now I just need it to warm up again.
I have dedicated a post to you today–you are my first dedication………………….
Awww, you are the sweetest blogging friend ever :). I am going to try and look at it now. My morning has been pure craziness, and I haven’t had a moment to breathe, so I am going to take a 5 minute break!
