Holidays + 1

What’s the best way to end your Christmas holidays?  Add one more day!!  We were under a snowfall warning all day yesterday and last night, and I was a nervous wreck yesterday because my son and his girlfriend had to drive back to school and the roads were terrible. Once I knew they had made it safely I crossed my fingers and toes and did the snow dance. For once it worked because we woke up to a fresh, white winter wonderland this morning. My younger son, Daniel, came out of his bedroom at 6:30 am with an ear to ear grin that let me know the buses were cancelled, and when I looked outside to see our street was not plowed yet and heard on the radio that we were under a blizzard warning for later in the day, I decided to add an extra day to my holidays.

Mikey headed out first thing this morning to blow the driveway, so I grabbed my camera and joined him.  Now, when the plows have not come by yet, you can’t exactly go out for a drive to snap pictures of the countryside, but if you use your imagination there are always snowy shots to capture right close to your house.  I spent an hour snapping shot after shot throughout my neighbourhood, while trying not to fall over in the deep snow with my camera in my hand :).  Here are a selection of my photos to give you an idea of what we woke up to.  For all my blogging friends in warm climates, get your spare bedrooms ready because I might just be visiting you if this keeps up :).

Mike very nicely made a path to the backyard for me so that I wouldn’t fall in the snow with my camera 🙂

Whoaaaaa, I’ve never seen snow that deep! They mentioned on the news here that Canada were supposed to get some seriously cold weather and of course I thought of you guys. Nice to know you are all safe and have been enjoying an extra day of holidays! 🙂

    • Oh we’ve had snow way deeper than this! There are some years where the snowbanks are too high to throw the snow over. Generally I hate winter with a passion, but I must admit that storm days like this are kind of fun :). It’s starting to blow and snow tonight, so we might even get a second day off tomorrow. Wahoo!!! Are you back at school yet? I miss Bryan soooo much. We had such a great visit with him over Christmas that it made it harder to see him go :(.

Wow that’s so strange to think about, we never get nearly as much as that in the UK. We all run and hide in our houses as soon as there is a few inches on the ground. 😛

Nope not yet, for some reason I go back to university really late this semester! I won’t be back until the end of January. Whoopiee for me! I do have a horrible essay to write before I return though, booo. 😦 Glad to hear you made the most of your time with Bryan, I know how hard it must have been to say goodbye again!

      • Trust me, I want to run and hide too!! Wow, you don’t go back until the end of January? So, when do you finish school for the year?

Brrrr. Great photos. Stay warm and stay safe. I’m starting to get cabin fever.

Wowie Wow Wow!! What a winter wonderland you live in! I can’t believe all that snow and a blizzard warning too? It’s cccccold here and will get down to nearly 0 tonight, but you’re welcome to stay in the guest room…. if you could get here that is. No snow here and none predicted. But it’s so beautiful and look at all the fun Mikey is having! 🙂 Sending Hugs to add warmth to your extra day of holiday. , Dor

    • Mikey was having a lot of fun today with his snowblower and blew out many of the neighbours’ driveways too. We didn’t have one until a few years ago because I always thought it was important for the boys to pitch in and help with the shoveling, but they won’t be around forever so we finally broke down and bought a blower. For men I swear the snowblowers are like giant toys, and I even commented today that the snowplow drivers shouldn’t get paid because they just get to play in piles of snow all day LOL!! Of course I’m kidding, but it was kind of funny :). I would race to your guest room if I could get there, but there were even flights cancelled today in Toronto, so I think we will have to stick it out.

Take a mug of hot chocolate three times a day and don’t operate heavy machinery. Best Wishes, Graham 🙂

    • Absolutely!! I let Mikey operate the snowblower while I was snapping photos, and when we came inside I had a big mug of hot chocolate :). It was one of those days when you definitely needed something to warm you up!

  5. Wow. That sure is deep snow.
Your weather made it to the TV news in Australia, but I didn’t imagine all that snow.
It’s a wonder the snow ploughs can even get through.
We have houses on stilts in Queensland to allow the hot/cool air to circulate and it looks like you need houses on stilts to be able to see above the snow line in winter.
    Keep warm & safe.

    • That’s pretty cool making it to the TV news in Australia!! But seriously, it seems like the weather is getting more and more extreme everywhere and natural disasters more frequent, don’t you think? It’s crazy!

  6. I am south of you but we have forfeited our Sun Parlour designation — we look just like you and it is darn cold

  7. Wow and I thought we got a lot of snow today. Great shots Cindy.

    • Thanks Edith :). I had fun taking them, but it sure was cold. I had to go back in the house a few times to let my camera warm up because my lens kept fogging up and then freezing, and my battery died pretty quick! We’re still under a blizzard warning tonight and they are telling people to stay off the roads, but it’s not really doing much here right now. Stay warm!

  8. Sayvan says:

Great shots… the snow was so deep in Stratford today I had to use the snow blower in layers…. after the plow came by it was about 5 ft at the bottom of the driveway…. had to climb on top pull the blower up and shave the snow down…. We live here why again?

    • I have been repeating that question to myself over and over all day! At least your blog post today gave me some much needed warmth :). It sounds like you actually got more snow than us this time.

      • Sayvan says:

We have blizzard like conditions. Just went out to rescue boy #3. Car slid into a ditch. Nasty out there. Tomorrow I will post some beach shots. We need it!

  9. TBM says:

Save me a seat outside! You know I love the snow. And how nice of Mikey to plow a way for you to take photos. such a sweetheart. Stay warm and safe.

  10. bulldog says:

I’ve opened up the spare bedroom and switched on the aircon… don’t want you having 35 C in the bedroom, so whenever your ready come on over… it’s piping hot with cool showers in the evening which makes for great skinny dipping…

  11. giselzitrone says:

So viel Schnee liebe Grüße und einen schönen Nachmittag.Liebe Grüße Gislinde

  12. benzeknees says:

You’re lucky you live in a community that plows your roads – not in Edmonton! Unless you happen to live on a bus route (like I do). You got a lot of snow! Yeah, for an extra day of holidays!

  13. krikitarts says:

Shore is purty, though! What kind of truck does your neighbor drive that he was able to get out in that befor the plow came by? Love youre “Here comes the sun” shot, Cindy! BTW, it’s probably a few degrees warmer here and we have hardly any snow left. If you find you really need an emergency break for a couple of days…

    • I must admit it is pretty and kind of exciting when we get snowed in. My neighbour just drives an old pickup, and it was hilarious watching him fishtail down the street. He made it though! Thanks for the offer my friend – the only problem is we can’t get out to come and visit LOL!! It was actually illegal to drive anywhere today because the police closed every road in our county. Mikey was out blowing driveways again today, but it was so cold that he had to take breaks because his face kept going numb.

  14. So how come there’s no picture of you doing the snow dance?
