A Treasure Found

I really wasn’t planning on posting this weekend because as  most of you know Mike and I are visiting my parents in Kingston, Ontario, but I was so excited about a treasure I found today that I needed to share it so that my blogging bookoholic friend, Becky, could see it (and any of the rest of you who love books the way I do).

My parents weren’t expecting us until afternoon today because usually we leave home around 8am and it’s a four hour drive plus bathroom and lunch breaks.  However, we had a surprise planned.  When we were in Kingston for my niece’s wedding, we had a couple of problems with our hotel room, so I send them an email, and they very nicely offered us a free room the next time we were in Kingston.  So, we decided to take them up on their offer and book the free room for last night.  Then this morning, we phoned my mom at 8am and told her that we were on the road, and two minutes later we were ringing their door bell.  You should have seen the look on my mom’s face.  It was priceless!  My dad was out for breakfast with his buddies, so we then drove to the restaurant and surprised my dad as well.  It was so much fun :).

Because we arrived so much earlier than usual, we decided to spend the day shopping because living in such a small town means that we don’t often get a chance to shop at “real stores”.  I hit a couple of awesome clothing sales, and then my mom and I convinced Mikey that our health and happiness depended on a trip to Chapters, a huge bookstore.  As usual, once inside my pulse quickened and a smile spread across my face.  Of course there were tons of books that appealed to me, but only one caused me to squeal and race across the store to embrace it in my arms.  It was a beautiful, hardcover edition of three Stephen King books  (Carrie, Salem’s Lot, and The Shining) with a gorgeous cover and silver gilded pages.  Becky, I think I know you well enough by now to know that you would have reacted exactly the same if you saw this book sitting on the shelf.  It is definitely a wonderful treasure to add to my book collection.  Have a look for yourself.

The thing I love most about you Cindy, is your unbridled joy at the simplest things! You are so easy to please and your enthusiasm is catchy (even though I am not a Stephen King fan). 🙂

    • Well, I’m not so sure my hubby would agree with your comment that I’m easy to please (LOL!!), but I like to think I am :). I just know that life is short, so I try to find joy wherever and whenever I can, and besides my family reading brings me the most joy of all! Thanks Dor :).

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! IT’S SO PREDDDY. 😀 I especially love the way they’ve stretched the writing so it fits into the creepy house. And the tree’s on the back with the moon is super eerie and eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Great find Cindy, bookshops and book snooping around them are definitely vital to health and happiness . 🙂

    • I just knew you would love it :). It was so much fun! Mike was just shaking his head at me because the same thing always happens when I walk into a book store. I start talking to one of the employees and soon we are chatting away like we have known each other for years because of the common interest in books. We get all animated and all he hears is “have you read ___? No? Oh my god, you just have to read it. It’s fantastic. Oh, and what about ____? If you liked _____, you will just love that one”. It goes on and on and on. LOL!!

Nice score! Three of his classic best all in one place.

  7. Just this past weekend my husband and I discovered a little bookstore in our town! It is tres cute and filled to the brim with books! I read most of mine on Kindle these days, but I did come away with one, which I read in totality yesterday (arrggg, nothing else got done) 🙂 and he ended up with three. Love discovering bookstores, especially the non-chain ones.

    • I also read tons of books on my eReader, but any books by a favourite author or in a favourite series I have to have in real book form. There is nothing that makes me smile more than walking down into my basement and seeing the one whole wall filled with books. Even though I literally have hundreds and hundreds of books on my computer and eReader, there is still nothing like the feel and smell of a real book :).

      • That is so true! My husband and I are both bibliophiles and we have run out of room for our books. We contracted to have another bookshelf/tv stand built, but so far the contractor has failed to deliver 😦

      • You are so lucky that your husband shares your love of reading. I’m the only reader in my house, and they all think I’m obsessed LOL! My sons used to love reading when they were little, but as teenage boys they have other interests now. I truly hope that one day they will discover the joy of reading once again :).

    • By the way, what was the book that you read in one sitting? I’m dying to know LOL! I have been so addicted to reading lately that I have been really neglecting my house, but as I get older I realize that it’s more important to do what I love most than to worry about what people will think of my house :).

      • It is entitled “the other side of DARKNESS” by Melody Carlson (capitalization is hers). It is about a woman with OCD who is drawn into a cultlike Christian fellowship – very good read. I read a lot of books in one sitting cause I am reading OCD is suppose 🙂 If I have a lot going on I don’t even DARE to start a book!

  8. LOL!! I love that – reading OCD. I think I’ll have to use that to describe myself from now on :). When I get into a good book, there are days when I barely make it to work because all I want to do is keep reading, and then I find it hard to concentrate at work because all I keep thinking about is getting home again to dive into my book. I have so many books to read right now between real and digital that I truly don’t think I could read them all in my lifetime, and yet I keep adding more to my TBR pile! Now I have to go look up the one you just read LOL!!

OMG! I would have died & gone to heaven right on the spot if I saw that book! Stingy hubby wouldn’t let me buy it, but I would have loved to just hold it in my hands for a little bit. I hope you bought it & are displaying it proudly on your book shelves!

    • Oh yes, I bought it because I thought the price was really quite reasonable at $29, and I just had to have it!! It’s a good thing that nobody got in my way when I went running across the store to grab it because I would have just mowed them down LOL :). Right now it’s in my very large to be read pile (because it has been years since I have read these 3 books), but it will have a very special spot on my bookshelves eventually. I’m really excited about it because Stephen King is releasing a new book this Fall called Dr. Sleep which is a sequel to The Shining. I can’t wait!!
