A mixture of good and bad

The last five days have definitely been interesting and certainly not boring.  A real smorgasbord of good and bad that’s for sure.  Remember how happy I was after we finished planting all of our gardens on the long weekend?  Well,  I guess my hubby should have listened to me when I said it was too early to plant!  Last Friday, MAY 24th, it snowed here and for three nights in a row we had frost.  Needless to say, all of Mikey’s tomato and pepper plants are dead and some of my annuals are not looking very healthy either. Was it too much to ask that we might be rewarded for all of that back breaking work with a continuation of the warm temperatures?  Oh well, we are going to wait a little bit longer to see if any of my wilting flowers will fight back, and then we will have to make hopefully one last trip to the garden centre :).

Saturday was pretty uneventful, probably to prepare me for Sunday.  Mike and I decided to get out of the house and start shopping around for a new patio set as the chairs of our old set are starting to fall apart.  We checked out a bunch of stores, picked up a few things at Costco, and then decided to hit the casino on the way home.  It turned out to be my lucky day, and I won enough on a 5 cent machine to easily cover a new patio set. Wahooo!!!  We left pretty soon after so that we weren’t tempted to blow my winnings and enjoyed a nice dinner out on the way home.  Then I begged bribed convinced my hubby that we should end the day off perfectly by going to the movies to see Fast & Furious 6.

The movie was amazing, but our luck definitely ran out after we left the theater when a deer ran out in the dark in front of my car.  We hit her dead on, and she was thrown about 100 feet in front of our car.  I have lived in the country for 25 years now, and this was my first car/deer experience, and I have to say it scared the shit out of me!!  Thank goodness we were driving my Dodge Charger which sits quite high off of the ground because if it had been Mike’s car I think that deer would have been sitting in the front seat with us.  The poor deer didn’t die right away, but the front end of my car definitely did :(.  Now we are dealing with the insurance company, and I am driving a rental car, but at least neither one of us was hurt.  Phew!!  And I guess my lottery winnings will now have to go to pay my deductible.  Darn!!  Hopefully the next five days will be a little more uneventful.

I haven’t been very motivated to blog lately because I have been totally addicted to reading, which is not a bad thing of course, but when I was reviewing some photos tonight I found this shot from back in April which made me think back to the snow and frost from Friday and how up and down everything has been, and it made me want to write again because I am thankful to be alive to share with my blogging family. Hopefully this is the last “cold” photo that I post for a long time.

Wow…Sorry to hear about the car and Insurance companies are a pain in the ass to deal with… hopefully they wont jack up your rates when your up for renewal…. We didn’t have any snow in Stratford but if this weather doesn’t change soon I will be looking for a permanent place in Hawaii.

Sorry to hear about the car. But at least you two are ok. And now you’ve got venison in the freezer 😛

  3. Thank god you guys are ok. And yes…no more cold pictures 🙂 Actually I think we’re turning the corner and we’ll have some hot weather coming our way in the next few days. Great shot. I love the composition and DoF.

    • Yes, it could have been a lot worse, that’s for sure! I’m still picturing it every time I close my eyes and hearing the sounds. Yikes!! And hopefully the change in weather this week doesn’t result in any tornados. I was in a Walmart in Orangeville last week with a friend, and all of a sudden it started to storm outside, with a green sky like I have never seen before. Everyone was freaked out, especially when it started to hail! There was some damage in Orangeville, but it wasn’t a tornado. I was really expecting my car to be covered in dents though when I came out of the store. I’m hoping for a nice calm and sunny day sometime this week where I can sit outside and read :). Enough of the crazy weather!

…and very nice photo it is indeed. I love shots of the small details.

Hope the deer died quickly and didn’t suffer too much, and glad to hear you are both ok from the a accident.

    • Thanks :). I’m glad you liked it! As for the deer, I was quite upset because she was still alive after we hit her. I was begging my hubby to put her out of her misery when she finally just died on her own. And yes, if we had been in a smaller car, I think the outcome could have been a lot different for us, and I am soooo thankful that we were not hurt!

Sorry to hear about the deer and the car damage. So sad. wishing you warmer weather. I think it’s supposed to be semi-decent in London this weekend. I may actually get to wear a short sleeve shirt. Woohoo!

    • Yes, I was really upset after we hit her because she was still alive at first, and we think she was pregnant. I thought I was going to have to get Mike to put her out of her misery, but then she just died on her own. And as for my car, that just about made me cry :(. It’s the nicest car I have ever had, and there is $10,000 damage to the front end. Our body guy says it is fixable, so I am just crossing my fingers that the insurance adjuster agrees (coming today) because if they write it off they would probably not give us enough to replace it exactly. Yay to the short sleeve shirt – I’m hoping for better weather here too :).

  6. Sorry to hear that you got snow after all your planting out. What strange weather, – we have it here too although not the snow, Sunday was glorious and I got sunburnt and the next day I had to wear 4 layers to work outside, the wind was so cold and then yesterday it poured down all day and was freezing.
Accidents with deer happen here too. My next door neighbours car was written off by hitting a deer. I hope your car gets fixed OK and that you are alright, thats the main thing.

    • Yes, I would have to say that the last year or so has been the strangest weather ever. It seems to be getting worse and worse doesn’t it? Oh well, now it’s supposed to be hot and humid for the next couple of days, so at least I don’t have to wear a coat again :). Thanks for all of your kind words. I really appreciate it! I find out about the car today – cross your fingers :).

Ohh wow what a roller coaster! Sorry to hear that it has been so up and down the past few days, the cosmic balance must of been feeling mean. The deer encounter sounds terrifying, I’m just glad to hear that you guys are okay and the only lasting damage was to the car!

    • Thanks Becky :). It sure makes you thankful that’s for sure! And of course I had my books to calm me down afterwards LOL!! Still waiting to hear from the insurance company because they just sent someone out to look at the car today, so keep your fingers crossed that they decide to fix it because I loveeeeee my car :).

Oh,Cindy… What an up/down/all around set of circumstances you and Mikey have been experiencing. Maybe you should plan another vacation and come back through here? I will take you to the Warm Springs Baths where you just float away all your cares. I passed Foamhenge today and was thinking of you both. May your plants revive and your car be like new, and your luck return at the casino!

    • Mikey is outside right now putting in new tomato and pepper plants because they were totally dead, but I am waiting to see if a couple of my flowers will rebound. Some of the leaves and blossoms died, but the plants still look alive to me, so I am watching them for a few days before I decide whether or not to replace them. As for the car, we are just waiting to hear from the insurance company. I sure hope they agree to fix it!! The body guy said there was about $10,000 in damage. Yikes! The casino was the only good part because I did win that day, and it was very exciting. I have been really slacking on my blog posting lately because I have been reading all the time, but now that you reminded me of Foamhenge, I might use that for my next blog post :). And the Warm Spring Baths sound lovely. I could really use that right now – too bad this is Mike’s busy time at work :(. We miss you!!

I’m sorry you lost some of your plants on the May long weekend, but I did tell you it was too early to plant (I think I told you this in my last comment). So sorry you hit a deer, it’s very upsetting & it’s worse dealing with the insurance companies.
