Twenty years ago on March 6th my oldest son, Bryan, was born. I can’t believe it because it feels like just yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital. Now, he is a grown man in his first year of college, and he has a wonderful girlfriend, Cayley, who I adore like a daughter.
Well, I found out that Cayley is amazing at planning surprises. A few weeks back, she texted me to tell me that she was going to take Bryan to a Toronto Raptors basketball game for his birthday, and she would tell him about the tickets on Valentine’s Day. Bryan has loved basketball since he was a little guy, and at 6’4″ he was always a good player in school, but he had never seen a live NBA game, so this was a fabulous gift idea for him. As Cayley knew they would be home this week for reading week, she bought the tickets for yesterday (Friday).
Well, I talked to Bryan after the game last night, and it was obvious that the night was a great success because I have never heard him so pumped up ever!! The Raptors were playing the New York Knicks, and the game was close from start to finish, with the Raptors winning by 2 with a basket at the final buzzer. Bryan said that there were both Raptors and Knicks fans around them, and it was hilarious because they were all chirping at each other. Because they were among the first 10,000 to show up for the game, they each got a free bobble head of Kyle Lowry, and then after the game Bryan bought a Lowry jersey and Cayley got a tshirt. They arrived home this afternoon on cloud 9, and I know it is a birthday present that Bryan will never forget! Aren’t they cute? I’m so glad that they found each other :).
They are a cute couple! Her attentiveness to something so special for him is a great marker in a relationship.
Nancy
Yes, I totally agree! Thanks Nancy :).
They do make a lovely couple… and she is so thoughtful… I’d say she’s a keeper…
Thanks Bulldog :). I don’t think there’s any chance of him letting go of this one. He’s hooked for sure :).
she is pretty and he handsome – a lovely couple
They are, aren’t they, but then I’m a little prejudiced! LOL
and well you should be!
lucky guy, and a cute couple they make. can’t believe you have a 20 yr. old!
Me neither!! Time flies doesn’t it?
One of the greatest joys in this life is the blessing of seeing our own children happy and proud of who they are and the decisions they have made. Well done, all of you!
Aww, thanks Gary!! It sure is a great feeling to see him so happy and healthy considering how sick he was when he was born. I am so very proud of all he has accomplished and how independent he has become :).
This post made me smile – I mean, grin! They really are adorable and surely starting out right. Cayley looks and sounds like a wonderful girl. How lucky he is and how great that you love her too.
I do! I just adore her :). And I’m so glad I could make you smile today :). I smile whenever I am around them because they are so darn cute and it reminds me of back when Mikey and I were dating.
It’s funny how we come to adore our kids partners …. we told our oldest that if he blows it with his current girlfriend we will be keeping her and getting rid of him! They have been together for 4 years so I think he got the message!
That’s hilarious!! Bryan and Cayley are like a little married couple already and even joke around about how many kids they want (she wants more than him LOL), so I can definitely see a future there !
A thoughtful gift. Tell him happy birthday for me.
I will :). Thanks!
Finally getting caught up with some of my older posts I missed – this is so cute – but what happened to the bobble head?
He still has it, and we have all been telling him he should glue it to the dashboard of his car so it can bobble around all the time! 🙂 Glad you’re back – I missed you!
