I wasn’t sure whether I would be able to manage a blog post tonight or not because I was afraid that my brain might be frozen. We woke up to -28° Celsius this morning, and let me tell you that is bloody cold!!! My Facebook status today stated that my two favourite items of the day were my car’s remote starter and the heated seats, and I had to laugh at how many people “liked” my status to agree with me.
Last week I posted some photos from Creemore, Ontario of a tiny cabin that has been preserved as a historic landmark, and I promised to show you pictures of the tiny jail as well. Built in 1892, the Creemore Jail is reported to be the smallest jail in North America. At 15′ x 20′ it is built from local limestone and split face field stone. There are three cells within the jail and during the period of operation it generally incarcerated people for drinking offences. The original cost was $425.20. The jail was used from 1892 until the 1940’s when it was locked up and left vacant. Now it has become a tourist attraction. I hope you enjoy it vicariously through my photos :).

Unfortunately, the jail is locked up during the winter, but here are a couple of photos from inside that I took back in 2006. They’re not the greatest because the space is very limited inside and therefore it’s difficult to compose a photo very well, but at least it gives you an idea just how small this jail is. Daniel is in the first photo, and I can’t believe how young he looks. Wow, they sure do grow up quickly :).

Now that is small…. but the idea of you waking to -28° C stay the hell in bed… that temp is not made for our specie… anything that cold should be being added to a glass of cold drink not walked about in…

Yes, when you stand inside it does kind of feel like everything is closing in on you. Mind you, since it says that the jail was mostly used for drunks, I doubt they really noticed how small it was LOL!! They were probably passed out anyway :).

Thank you – I’m trying! We always try to keep our thermostat at a reasonable level, but this week I seem to just keep inching it upwards :). I don’t like the cold!!

I know, I am not enjoying it either, but just keep dreaming of summer because it is beautiful in Canada :). You should have seen me this morning. I was driving to work and it was -20, and all of a sudden I saw this gorgeous rainbow going right over the highway. So of course I had to stop and take a whole bunch of photos. By the time I got back into the car I couldn’t feel my fingers, but it was sooooo worth it!!! LOL
