Treasured Possessions

A couple of days before Christmas I was in a Chapters bookstore picking up a gift when my hubby called me over to a table that held some new releases.  Approaching the table my eyes caught sight of a beautiful hardcover book about The Hobbit, and my book loving heart started beating a mile a minute.  I grabbed it, held it close to me, and looked at my hubby with pleading, puppy dog eyes.  Knowing that I would probably not let it go, he said I could buy it as a Christmas present from him.

After leaving the store grinning from ear to ear, I immediately sent a message to my blogging friend, Becky, who I know is a Hobbit freak just like me!  She demanded pictures, but when we got home Mike took the book away from me to wrap up for Christmas, so I had to tell Becky to be patient.

Now that the big day is over and things are settling down again, I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my new treasured possession as well as the gorgeous hardcover edition of The Hobbit that I have had for years and that Becky also wanted to see.  So, this is for you Becky – I hope you enjoy my treasured possessions :).

My new treasured possession:

Hobbit 1

Each page has a detailed write-up and beautiful drawings of one aspect of the book (i.e. setting or characters) and how they were developed for the movie (which was totally amazing by the way!!!).  Just to give you an example, it explains that J.R.R. Tolkien described the ponies as being very hairy, but ponies lose their long hair in the summer, and they were shooting Hobbiton at Midsummer.  So, the ponies were sent to hair and makeup just like the human cast and were put in hairy suits with wigs.  Can you believe that?

Hobbit 2

Hobbit 3

Hobbit 4

Below are two photos of the gorgeous boxed, hardcover edition of The Hobbit which I have had for years.  The book is on the left in the first photo, and the box is on the right.  I can’t even remember where I got it, but it has always been one of my favourites from my book collection.  The second photo shows one of the coloured illustrations in the book which were done by Tolkien as well.

Yay I feel all special having a post dedicated to me, hehee. xD

But ohh wow they’ve made it so beautiful! It looks so high quality with the filigree gold and the picture and oh! I wants one, my precioussssss!!!! I’ll play a game of riddles in the dark for it? 😉

Interesting fact about the horses as well, how inconvenient lol. Still it’s Peter Jackson, he never does anything half way and that’s why we love him! 😛 Even the pictures look so clear, wow.

As for The Hobbit novel…..*sigh* I’m so jealous! And it has pictures and everything! Gosh. I want one of those tooo! 😛 You say J. R. R. Tolkien drew them? I didn’t realize that he could draw!

Fantastic post, and thank you muchly. 😀

    • Oh, I’m so glad you liked it!!! It’s fun to share this with someone who loves The Hobbit as much as I do :). And your comment made me laugh so much!! You should check at your local bookstore for the book because they told me that it had just been released.

When you said “I wants one, my preciousssss” it reminded me of something else I didn’t tell you about. When my oldest son was in Grade 7, I went with his class to see a theatre production of Lord of the Rings, and they had beautiful handmade souvenirs you could buy after the show. I bought a heavy gold chain (not real) with a replica of the ring on it. It even has the words engraved inside it. Bryan was so embarrassed because I kept putting the ring on and saying, “you can’t see me”. It was hilarious!! I still wear it on a regular basis because it’s a gorgeous necklace :).

Ha ha ha ohhh that’s so funny! *Internet high five* you’re way too cool! 😛 Mind you, if I walked round doing that my family and friends would get the same confused/exasperated look on their face, lol. To be honest, I still get it a bit because I have a replica Mockingjay pin and my friends shake their heads at me. But you’ve gone and made me all jealous again! Although I have seen quite a few replica’s on ebay…

But tell me, while wearing this ring, did you at any point experience mood swings and ocd ring stroking behaviour? 😛

      • You’re cool too – you have a Mockingjay pin!!! Lucky!! And yes, I think the ring does affect me, but then I’m ocd all the time so maybe it’s not the ring LOL! By the way, my hubby saw your picture on Goodreads, and he thinks you’re hot :).

        Hehee.
Aha, I thought so! That ring has power. Poor Frodo, he worked so hard to put that ring in the fire, and then Hollywood went and made a thousand more. 😛

Haha awwh, tell him thanks for the compliment. 🙂

      • He says you’re welcome 🙂
