What do you consider a perfect weekend? I have many versions of the perfect weekend in my mind, but one of the best consists of a little bit of everything – good times with people I love, spending time doing the things I enjoy most, as well as crossing multiple items off of my to-do list. This weekend was that and more!!
About a week ago I took a leap and upgraded my laptop to a beautiful new 17.3″ HP Envy with the new Windows 8 operating system. It has an Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, a Blu-Ray drive, and a 2GB dedicated graphics card. Now I must say that I was a little overwhelmed at first because I had a ton of stuff to transfer over from my old laptop and Windows 8 is quite a bit different than its predecessor. However, I took it a step at a time during the week and then devoted all of Friday night to finishing everything off, and tonight I can finally say that my laptop is set up the way I want it and I am feeling quite comfortable with Windows 8.
Saturday was a wonderful day spent with my hubby. We started off by surprising my son, Bryan, with a visit at his college residence and stocked him up on groceries at the same time. Then we had lunch out and headed to the mall in Kitchener for some early Christmas shopping where we were extremely successful!! I always breathe a sigh of relief when I get my Christmas shopping started because the weather in our area can really wreak havoc in December, and sometimes it’s hard to get out to the stores safely. On the way home we stopped at a casino and had a fabulous time. We won a couple of small jackpots and lost a bit too, but we played for hours and still went home with extra money after enjoying a wonderful supper at the casino. The drive home was filled with laughter :).
Today I caught up on chores, doing laundry, watering plants, and cleaning bathrooms. Then I got through about half of a book I have to review and played with my new laptop. Now I’m finishing the night off reading emails and watching my favourite TV show, The Walking Dead. What a perfect end to a wonderful weekend!
The only bad thing about the weekend was what we woke up to on Saturday morning. We have a patio door in our bedroom that looks out on the field behind our house, and when we turned over in the morning and looked out the door, we were greeted by a world covered totally in white. Yes, it snowed – about 3 inches worth. Yucky!! The snow is beautiful though after it has just fallen, so I ran outside with my camera to grab some shots before the neighbour kids destroyed the pristine beauty. I will share more of the shots over the next few days, but here is one that I really love because the one remaining stubborn leaf reminds me of myself trying to deny that winter is finally here.
It’s wonderful that a leaf would hold out so long… if I had to awake to see snow… I would not exit the bed…
Trust me, I was very tempted to roll back over and pretend I never saw the icky white stuff. However, the prospect of a visit to my son finally got me out of bed :).
Sounds like a great weekend. I can’t believe the snow you got. Nothing in town but it was cold. Excellent shot.
Thanks Edith, and yes it was wonderful :). The snowfall was very localized because after driving only 10 minutes from our house there was nothing but green grass. That’s when you get the funny looks from people as they stare at your car as you drive by wondering where you have driven from with your car covered in snow. LOL
Sounds like such a wonderful couple of days! I love the photograph, I think it’s really beautiful. 🙂
Thanks so much :). Now off to work I go to dream about next weekend. I definitely live for the weekends LOL!!
What part of the country are you in that you already have snow?
Southern Ontario – about 1 1/2 hours NW of Toronto. It didn’t melt away either – the ground is still covered :(.
Not so far away and yet we received no snow – though the wind was icy.
Believe it or not, we drove 10 minutes from the house and there was nothing but green grass. It was like our town of Dundalk was in its own little snow globe LOL!
SNOW!!!!!!!! Better you than me..LOL!
I’ve decided to gather up a whole bunch of chocolate and hibernate until Spring. Are you with me??
I’m already there! What’s taking you so long ???
I’ll be right there! OMG, I forgot to tell you, my fellow chocoholic, something extremely exciting. I just found out this morning that there is a Lindt chocolate outlet store in the city where my son goes to college. I think I will be going to visit him again next weekend to do some stocking stuffer shopping :)!!
I love snow- just not on the road
I couldn’t agree more!!
Me too – had a beautiful weekend with family here and lots of laughter. How lucky we are. That’s a lovely picture Cindy and waking up to a world of white sounds like fun for now since we haven’t had any yet. Freezing temps at night here in Virginia though.
Thanks and you’re so right Dor – we are very lucky!!! I’m so glad that you had a wonderful weekend too. The first snow is kind of exciting and pretty, I’ll admit it, but I’d still much rather be back in summer :).
Beautiful as always Cindy! I wish I could say my weekend was so nice..but it wasn’t it. I had to work and I was so tired I barley spent time with my son and husband this weekend. 😦
Aww, thank you :), and I really hope that next weekend is better for you. It must just kill you to be away from that adorable little son of yours! How old is he now by the way?
He just turned a year. 😦 I think he is growing up way to fast.
Trust me – I know what you are feeling. Mine are 16 and 19, and it feels like just yesterday that they were babies! Time sure does fly :).
Ummm…what was all the computer mumbo jumbo—head is spinning! Glad you had a great weekend. No snow here, but when I took Miles out this morning, it was cold. I loved it!
Thanks TBM :), and I guess what you’re telling me is that not only do I have to teach you how to organize, I also have to teach you all about computers??? LOL It is still really cold here too, but apparently it is supposed to be warming up a bit this week, and that makes me very happy :).
Computer, DVD player, Ipod, remote controls—why do I need three remotes for the TV. I wish you warmer weather and no snow for the week!
Oh TBM, what you need is a universal remote which would replace the 3 TV remotes, and first lesson of the day – it’s iPod with a small “i” and a capital “P” LMAO!!!! All kidding aside, thank you for the warm weather wishes :).
Nice photo Cindy! And congrats on the new computer, I guess. I’m a Mac, so that “W” word is a four letter word to me 😛
And, I CAN’T WAIT FOR SNOW!!!
Hey now, don’t hate on us PC users because I respect your Mac, and I am addicted to my other Apple products (my iPhone and iPad) :). Actually, I really like Macs, but because we had three desktops and four laptops going in this house at one point, it was easier to keep them all the same for networking purposes. Also, my boys are big time gamers, and you can’t game on a Mac. Now the desktops are sitting collecting dust because the laptops are so amazing these days and one son has gone away to college with the other son only a couple of years away from college, so maybe one day down the road I will get to try a Mac. That would really screw up my husband though because until quite recently he was technologically challenged, and he is doing so well now that I wouldn’t want to mess him up LOL!!
Wow – I can’t believe you got that much snow! While I am not ready for it, I am excited for first snow photos! Love the one you took – perfect capture.
Thanks – I’m so glad you liked it :). I’m not a winter person at all, but I have to admit that I really love going out in the middle of the winter after a huge storm to capture the beauty of a fresh snow-covered world. It really is beautiful :).
Although I am really enjoying the rather gentle autumn here, I am actually looking forward to snowtime. I know it could happen any time, but until it does, I’m savoring what’s left of fall. Like your snowy leaf shot a lot!
Thanks Gary :). I’m already dreaming of summer and thinking of hibernating until Spring LOL!!
