Ok, which do you want first – the good news or the bad news? Oh, good news you say? Well, yesterday was an amazing day!! My parents came up to visit again, and we went to a camera/photography show in Toronto. It is put on twice a year by Henry’s camera store, and it is definitely one of those “best bang for your buck” type of events. I say this because you can always find a free ticket on the internet, the parking is free, and you get to attend free photography seminars all day long! This is the same show where I bought my Canon Rebel T3i back in the Spring. Not only was it nice to have my parents with me, but we also met up with my cousin and her husband who I haven’t seen in years. What a fun day we had :).
We ended up attending three seminars, and they were very interesting and informative. The first one was called The Power of Photoshop Elements and went through some of the basic editing techniques in Photoshop that I know I often forget about. The second seminar was about taking your camera off the auto ISO setting and learning how to use the ISO setting properly to help you get the results you want in your photos. Finally, we went to hear a talk by an award winning travel photographer who was very uplifting and enthusiastic. He showed us many beautiful photos from his travels, explained how he captured those particular shots, and told us stories about the people he met along the way. He also interjected many photography tips along the way.
By the time we had finished with the three seminars, our heads were swimming with information, so it was time to move on to shopping, and I was a very, very bad girl. There are always a lot of great deals at the show, and they give you a discount if you spend so much, so spend I did :). For my followers out there who have suggested these to me, I finally ordered (not in stock at the show) myself a set of Kenko extender tubes so I can do closer macro work, and I also got a wireless remote, a circular polarizer (wow, they are expensive!), Photoshop Elements 11, and a Gorillapod. The hubby doesn’t quite know how much I spent though, so Shhhhhhhh!!!! Tee Hee
Now on the my photos for today and the bad news. We have had snow TWICE this week, and it’s only the middle of October :(. Luckily it didn’t stay on the ground for long, but it was definitely a wakeup call! Here are a few of photos that I took as the tears of horror were running down my face.
Great shots. I can’t believe you had snow. I missed the show…urghhh. I was in Montreal this weekend. This is the second time I missed it as I was out of town for the spring show. Hopefully I’ll be around go the 2013 spring show.
Oh that’s too bad, but at least you didn’t spend all the money I did LOL!! I hope you get to go to the Spring show :).
Great photos of the snow…
Thanks Bulldog 🙂 I guess it was a little bit pretty, but not so nice when I couldn’t find the scraper/brush to clean off my car. I think I gave mine to my son when he took my old car away to college and forgot to buy myself a new one LOL.
Wow – you are a lucky lady!!! Those sound like super fun new additions!!! Snow already?? oh my…. great captures!!! 🙂 **
I think you should start sitting inside a freezer and studying my snow pictures to get ready for your big move LOL!! But you will have that handsome, soon to be husband to keep you warm, so it’s all good :). Glad you liked the pictures, and yes I am sitting experimenting with my new camera stuff right now. It is very exciting!!
So, you bought a few new pieces of gear, you got to see and spend some time with family, and it snowed. Where’s the bad? 😛
The snow was definitely bad, bad, bad :(. I hate winter with a passion!! LOL The new gear is great though :).
Autumn and winter, the best time to be a photographer!
Actually, although I do hate winter, I must admit that it’s a lot of fun to go out and take pictures after the big snowstorms we get up here :).
Lovely shots, especially the second one from the bottom!
Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun experimenting to take these shots, so much so that I was almost late for work. Oops! LOL
Love the photos! The photo show sounds like so much fun! I wish we had one around Asheville… 🙂
It was a blast, especially since everything was free (unless you wanted to shop of course :)). The seminars are so informative, and there is always something for everyone – amateurs and professionals! I’m glad you liked the photos :).
I stopped after seeing your comment at Dor’s Virginia Views. Great photos! I certainly understand why you find it a great release from work (comment in the About tab).
Nancy
Thank you so much, and yes blogging is a great release and so fulfilling! Thanks for visiting :).
I like snow – just not yet – but I live in the SunParlour or bananabelt of Canada where we practically forgot to have winter last year
I am SO hoping for a winter like last year, but I don’t think we are going to be that lucky :).
OH MY GOD… luckily we didnt get any of that stuff! WOW… I am crying!
I know right? It was so depressing and so bloody cold :(. When is the next flight to a hot, tropical island???? LOL
Awwww… only a dusting. Beautiful photos as always, but I’m lookin’ for your shots of the BIG storms. Meanwhile, you will have lots to keep you busy with all the new “stuff” you added to your collection from the photo show! Enjoy!
Yes, I must admit that the big storms are fun, as long as I don’t have to drive anywhere. The best is getting snowed in with the highways closed, so that we don’t have to go to work or school :). And yes, I have been playing with my new “stuff” all day, and I love it!!
Ummm…can you send the snow here. Love the photos.
The snow is all yours :). I don’t want it!! LOL
Don’t say the s— word! We had a short bit of the white stuff on Wednesday of last week, but it went very quickly & today was about 17 degrees above.
Yes, ours went away very quickly too and it did warm up over the weekend, but wow did we ever get a lot of wind and rain!!! Mother Nature is sure in a mood lately :).
Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I’m envious that you have such wonderful shows – free lessons? Wow! I hope you enjoy the new gadgets!!!! Think your pictures are beautiful – no.4 is my favourite this time! 🙂
You would have loved the photography show, especially with your new camera!! Some are very technical seminars, like one we saw about how to use the ISO button. Others are fascinating, like the travel photographer who gave us a talk about his various trips and showed us fabulous photos. He was very inspiring! By the way, the 4th photo is my favourite too :). Thanks!!
Sounds like you had a wonderful and very productive day at the photo show!
Terrific snow pics!
We may never see snow all winter here in coastal South Carolina USA but we do get the occasional dusting.
Still shorts and T shirt weather with temps this week in the 70s F.
The photo show was amazing fun!! They put it on twice a year, and I try to go every time because it’s so worthwhile. As for the weather, you are soooo lucky. I would love to live in your type of climate. I would not miss the cold at all LOL!!
Have fun with the new toys. 😉
I definitely will! I just have to learn how to use them first LOL!!
Snow or no snow, still beautiful photos!
Thank you so much 🙂
wonderful!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed them :).
