Spiders are pretty gross overall, but I’m ok with them as long as I can see where they are and they’re not crawling on me. However, there is something about spiders with big, fat bodies that just sends shivers up my spine!!
I’m not all that happy with this photo because it’s not near as sharp as I would like it to be, but if you could have seen how close I had to get to this guy to snap the picture, you would think it very understandable that my hands were probably shaking. I mean the body of this thing had to be about the size of a big cherry. Yuck!!! And he was right near my front door. I’m telling you, if I feel anything crawling on me tonight I am going to freak right out!! I have never seen a spider this fat or this colour near my house before. My hubby grossed me out even further by telling me it’s probably a “she”, and she’s probably full of babies. That’s it – I’m out of here!!
She’s just beautiful! She’s a marbled orb weaver, Aaneus marmoreus. Their range extends through the whole US and north to Alaska. BTW, she’s perfectly harmless, unless you’re an insect!
I was counting on you Gary, and as usual you came through!! I knew you would know what type of creepy crawly spider this was, and thank you for assuring me that she’s harmless!!
I still would not be able to have her in my home.
Me neither 🙂
I’m with you on that. Super-duper yuck! 😀
Well, I’m sure glad I’m not the only one :).
LOL! And nearly the colour of a cherry too… It’s a pretty specimen! 🙂
Pretty?? LOL. Ok, if you say so :).
Feet up on the chair! That one would definitely have to go – & I don’t mean nicely carried out of the house on a piece of paper & set free. This one gets squashed! Especially if it’s a female carrying babies! Ewwwwwwwwwww
Ok, I’m with you on the whole squashing thing, but can you imagine how disgusting that would be? I think it would be like popping a ripe pimple LOL!!! Yuck!
Creepy… I’m not a spiders fan!!! 😦 **
LOL 🙂
Get over it, you guys–these spiders are our friends! Can you imagine how many mosquitos a gem like this one can polish off it a season! Come on–look at her objectively. She really is beutiful!
Ok Gary, since mosquitoes do find me very, very tasty, maybe I could have a little bit of love for the icky spider LOL!!
