Since it was so hot this past weekend, my hubby would start off each day by setting up the sprinkler in the backyard to water his vegetable garden and then putter around watering his pumpkin patch and even my flowers if I talked nice enough to him :). On Sunday morning, I happened to walk into our bedroom for something, and through the patio door I noticed Mike just standing there looking away from the house. I watched him for a minute, wondering what he was doing. You see, Mike doesn’t usually stand still. He always has to be doing something LOL. Was he just waiting to see if the sprinkler was reaching all of his veggies? Or, was he maybe talking to our neighbour next door? I couldn’t hear him talking though, and he was staring very intently ahead of him. Something had his attention that was for sure!!
I finally put my head out the door and asked him what the heck he was doing. He replied, “I’m trying to find out where those noisy little buggers are!!!” in a perturbed voice. It was then that I realized he was talking about the birds I could hear chirping outside. Now this was not the usual occasional bird song that I find so beautiful in the summer months. No, this was constant, repetitive chirp chirp chirping, and it was driving him crazy :). We finally realized that it was baby birds in the neighbour’s tree, probably calling to their mommy because they were hungry, which meant that I, of course, ran for my camera!
Now, keep in mind that I was barefoot, and my neighbours have a dog, so it was like a soldier avoiding land mines trying to get close to that tree, but I did it. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that my camera was switched to manual focus, and silly me couldn’t figure out why I was having so much trouble focusing on the wee birdies, but I did manage to get a few really nice shots of one little guy without stepping in anything nasty. I think they might be baby sparrows, but I’m not that knowledgeable about birds. Can anyone tell me for sure what kind of bird he is?
I think he’s trying to hide from Mike in this first shot!
He finally gives up and starts calling for his mommy again.
And now he’s patiently waiting, waiting, waiting….
Lovely shots, cute baby bird. Well done, Cindy, avoiding all the land mines! 🙂
Thanks, but it was close a few times, let me tell you LOL. I was also lucky that the dog was not outside at the time because he’s huge and I would have been too chicken to enter his space. 🙂
Oh, I do hope he was reunited with his parents.
Lovely lovely shots.
Yes, I hope so too! We went out for the day shortly afterwards, and I never noticed the babies again, but I’m assuming they were big enough to fly away. I’m glad you liked them :).
I’m so glad I found you. Excellent photo’s. Great comments. I look forward to reading and sharing you with others.
Well, aren’t you sweet :). Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. I really appreciate it!!
Good thing Mike was irritated by the bird calls because you got these fun shots! “You did good” Cindy. 🙂
Thanks Dor, and yes, he was very irritated – it was kind of funny actually :).
Nice shots. They came out nice
Yes, it’s not often you can get a bird to stay put long enough to get good pictures. I was pretty excited!! 🙂
I was thinking that. They spook so easily. The must have sense you meant no harm. Lol
