The Big Day!!

Today is the big day, my 47th birthday!!  You’re probably surprised that I actually told you how old I am, but I have never been bothered by getting older.  I really don’t feel all that different than I did when I was 20, nor do I act any differently.  I’m still as crazy as ever – ask my kids!!  I just try to enjoy every stage of my life to the fullest :).

This year my birthday weekend has been absolute perfection!  On Saturday, I spent the whole day and night at an outdoor concert in Owen Sound, Ontario with my friend, Marcy, and it was amazing!!  It was really hot and sunny (my favourite kind of weather) and we got to see 8 bands for $59.00.  That’s pretty cheap in my opinion.  We left the house at 10:30 am and didn’t get home until almost 12:30 am.  It’s pretty difficult to take photos in a concert setting, especially when it’s outside in the sun, but I ended up with some amazing shots which I will be sharing with you over the next few days.

Yesterday, my hubby and I hit the road with our cameras and spent the whole day in Bruce County on the shores of Lake Huron exploring.  It was about an hour and a half from our house, but it was a beautiful day for a drive.  We had a pamphlet that I had picked up at the concert detailing all of the lighthouses in Bruce County, and we manage to find three of them and took many pictures along the way.  In Kincardine, Ontario, we were even able to take a tour inside a lighthouse and climbed to the top to see a spectacular view of the harbour.  It was an absolutely wonderful day, and the boys stayed home so we didn’t even have to hear, “Mom, can we go home yet?” or “Dad, are we done yet?”

Today, being my actual birthday, I intend to spend the whole day relaxing on the deck reading a book.  I am re-reading one of my favourites from the last couple of years, A Discovery of Witches, because the second book in the series comes out on July 10th, and I am really excited about it.  If you like stories about witches and vampires, but written for adults by a college professor who injects a great deal of history and science into the plot, you should definitely read this book.  When I read it the first time, I couldn’t put it down, and it’s no different the second time.

I had my post for today drafted a few days ago, but this morning my hubby and kids revealed my many treats for the day, and I just had to share them.   You see, when it comes to food, Mike never does anything in a small way.  So, even though he knows that I have been trying to cut down and lose a little weight, that all got thrown out the window for today.  Most people get one birthday cake if they are lucky right?  Well, I got three different kinds of chocolate cake (because I’m a chocoholic), as well as mini angel food cakes with icecream, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and whipped cream.  Plus, for dinner we are having big, thick, juicy t-bone steaks on the BBQ as well as pasta salads and other stuff.  YUMMY!!!!!  So, here are some photos to give you an idea of the feast I have ahead of me.  Everything is still in the packages, so these are not incredibly artistic photos, but I’m sure it will make you all hungry, especially Suzanne!!!
