Trip of a Lifetime!

My baby has arrived home safely and with him 446 photos of his once in a lifetime trip to England and Scotland.  For a kid who begged me not to make him take pictures, he did an awesome job!!  That was part of the deal though – you want to go on this trip to the land of our ancestors, you MUST take pictures for me.

So, I think for the next few days I will be showcasing some of Daniel’s experiences through his photos.  The weather was a little iffy some days, and many shots had to be taken through the windows of a tour bus, but he still managed to capture every aspect of the trip to make lasting memories.

I was so busy last night unpacking for Daniel and doing laundry (he was exhausted and didn’t stay awake long) that I only got to quickly go through his photos once, but this photo of the River Thames in London really popped out at me because of the incredible atmosphere created by the dark clouds against the white of the London Eye and surrounding buildings.  Daniel told me that if he had a DSLR instead of a point and click, he might become more interested in photography.  Hmmmmm, even more reason now why I need to upgrade my camera right?  Then he could have my old one!!  My birthday is coming up…….

That is one hell of a photo Cindy, he should be proud of that one!

Since I just upgraded to the 7D, I’ve got a 40D with a RRS “L” plate and a Crumpler Industry Disgrace camera strap I’d make you a real good deal on 😉

    • After seeing your comment and having me tell him what an amazing photographer you are, I think he is feeling really good about this photo now!! And wow, that’s quite the camera upgrade!! I was just thinking of upgrading from the Rebel XSi to the Rebel T3i. I’m thinking your 40D would still be well above my price range LOL :). How do you like your new baby?? Are you in seventh heaven?

I love it! Need bigger CF cards now though. A 4 gig card goes from about 300 RAW files from a 10mp camera to around 155 on the 7D’s 18mp. To be honest, the 18mp was not even on the list of why I wanted to upgrade. I just got done signing the 18 16″x24″ and one 12″x36″ prints that just came in and couldn’t be happier with what I got from the 40D’s 10mp.

You’d be surprised at what I want for the 40D. 😉 It’s served me well, but now it’s in it’s box waiting for a new home. That’s all I’m going to say. I’m not trying to push a sale, you can message me through FB if your curious.

Regardless of what you upgrade to, get a camera in that boys hands! If he has other photos that are that nice, I can’t wait to see them.

That looks familiar! Tell him great job and that he should get the new camera. Sorry, I was the baby and got all the hand-me-downs.

  3. Looks like you got some competition there Cindy. 🙂 Daniel did a great job with this photo. Giving him your camera and upgrading sounds like a perfect idea! (I wish I can convince my wife to let me upgrade my camera)

    • I’m still working on convincing my hubby :). He’s trying to tell me that the new car was my birthday present, but I told him that’s a necessity not a gift LOL!! My birthday is at the beginning of July, so I still have a bit of time to wear him down. And yes, I think Daniel could very well become strong competition, and all of these comments are putting a permanent smile on his face :).

Great shot. Daniel has the same DNA. And you sound ecstatic to have him home. 🙂

    • Yes, he really did a great job taking photos on his trip. I am very proud of him and so happy that he was able to have this experience. But you are right – I am very, very ecstatic that he is home. It just wasn’t the same without him here! Thanks Dor 🙂

Grteat shot for sure… post card perfect!

    • You know, it’s funny you should say that because I was looking at it last night thinking what a great post card it would make!! Thanks for the comment – Daniel is really enjoying reading them :).

  8. I think he did a great job on this image.

This would make a great postcard. Love the stormy skies against the peaceful white of the London Eye.

  10. Looks like a post card…nicely done

What a fabulous photo … Especially considering he got this from a point and shoot. Beautiful. BTW … I have the T3i and I love it! Hope it works out for you! 😀

    • I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at his photos. The only pictures he has ever taken before were goofy shots of friends. Those are fun of course and great memories to have, but it was nice to see that he actually has an eye for composing a great shot like this one. I think one day he will be very glad that I pushed him to take pictures on this trip. Cross your fingers for me about the T3i – I keep dropping little hints to my husband :). It’s nice to know someone show has it and loves it!!
