50 or 5?

Oh, how I love long weekends, but if my long weekend is really wonderful, it’s actually kind of depressing to go back to work (even more so than usual).  That’s how I’m feeling today.  I just wanted my weekend to continue forever. 🙂

As I mentioned the other day, my hubby’s 50th birthday is coming up (yup he’s older than me and always will be LOL), and we decided to celebrate his birthday early in Niagara Falls.  You see, my hubby loves to play the slot machines, and there are 2 casinos in Niagara Falls, Ontario and 1 casino across the bridge in Niagara Falls, New York.  We are not the type to do surprise parties or anything like that for each other – in fact we are not the party types at all – so he decided that spending the weekend in Niagara at the casinos was what he really wanted to do for his big five-oh.  Every other time we have gone away, we have always taken our kids with us, but for the first time ever we left the kids at home and booked a fancy hotel room overlooking the falls, and it even had a jacuzzi tub!!!  Unfortunately, we didn’t do very well at the casinos, but it was still a lot of fun, and we had perfect weather to do sightseeing as well.  It was warm and sunny all weekend which is kind of unusual for the beginning of April, and we loved it!!

On one excursion our shuttle bus dropped us off on Clifton Hill where all the touristy places are like the wax museum, the haunted house, and Guinness Book of World Records.  Some things never change, and after years and years there is still a statue of the tallest man, Robert Wadlow (8 feet, 11.1 inches), standing outside the Guinness Book of World Records building with his gigantic chair that was made to fit his tall frame.  I had to bug him over and over, but I finally convinced Mike to sit in the big chair so that I could take his picture.  The result had me bent over double laughing out on the street because he looked liked a 5 year old little boy with his feet barely reaching the edge of the chair rather than a man approaching his 50th birthday!  The little smirk on his face just made it perfect.  Mikey never fails to make people laugh, and I sure hope he gives you your laugh for the day. 🙂

I must warn you ahead of time – there will be many Niagara Falls photos this week.  I hope they won’t bore you! 🙂

  1. Haven’t been to Niagara Falls since I was pregnant with my firstborn, who’s 29 this year! Looking forward to seeing all your photos. 🙂

    • And I love the big chair, they have one in the Poconos and I’ve gotten pics of hubby and he of me in it, it was fun! Your husband is 50 years young!

      • We hadn’t been in years either, and the last time we went we had two young children in tow, so this was a refreshing change. It was definitely a lot easier taking pictures without having to watch out for little ones misbehaving or getting lost in the crowds. Our boys are 15 and 19 now, but I still missed them. As for the chair, both my husband and I are a little crazy, and I think that keeps us young. It was fun! 🙂

Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Always worth it to spend some time with one’s significant other – alone. Looking forward to the photos! 🙂

    • We did have a wonderful time, and it was a much deserved break for my hubby before he gets into his busy season at work. It’s so different being able to go away and leave the kids at home now. I am hoping that in a few years when all the big expenses like braces and school trips are done, maybe we can go away on a big trip to Europe or something. That would be amazing!!

The Europe trip sounds like a very good idea to me! We are chomping at the bit to go ourselves, but things keep getting in the way (by things I mean kids, work, finances…) But still, you managed to have a great time, something to remember! 🙂

A great intro to your Niagara adventure–you guys are such a hoot! Eager to see what else you have in store!

    • Thanks Gary, and yes, we are a tad loony – hence the name of my blog LOL. It keeps us young at heart I think. 🙂 Just to give you a peek into what’s coming, there was a full rainbow over the falls the day we were there. It was truly amazing!!
