Yesterday’s post focused on how harmful and dangerous wind can be, but today let’s look at the fun wind can bring. Have you ever tried wind surfing? I did while on vacation in the 1000 Islands near Kingston, Ontario when I was a teenager, but at that age I was a tall, scrawny, and gangly girl with no upper body strength at all. As a result, wind surfing for me usually became entertainment for the people watching. When (not if) you fall off, the sail becomes filled with water and incredibly heavy, and you have to pull it up. That was almost an impossible feat for me, but I was persistent and managed to sail it across the narrow part of the St. Lawrence River that we were on at the time. The funny part was, I couldn’t figure out how to sail it back!! Ya, I know, what a loser!!
When we were sailing in the 1000 Islands a couple of years ago with my parents, I snapped some pictures of some people wind surfing, and it brought back so many memories. It was very windy that day and our boat was constantly moving up and down through the waves, so it was very difficult to hold the camera steady and take an action shot, and my composition as a result is not the greatest (cut off the top of the sail – oops!). However, I think this still turned out pretty good. What do you think?
That looks fun!
It is!! 🙂
Pretty good, I think, since you were moving and the windsurfer was moving. I only ever tried it once, and it was fun – hard work, but fun! 🙂
Thanks and yes it is definitely a full body work out!! 🙂
I would love to do this. That darn motion sickness might get in the way though. LOL
That’s ok, it’s not like you’re going to make a mess. You just puke in the water and leave it behind as you sail away. LMAO. I’ll never forget the time when I was a kid and my dad tied ropes off the stern of our boat so we could be pulled in the water behind the boat as it sailed along. My cousin was in the boat and he got seasick. Well, you can just imagine us dodging streams of it as he was sick over the side of the boat!!! Yuck!!
that would be me.. LOL
Never tried it!!!But I’ve never been much of a “water girl”… 😉 **
I had to be a water girl growing up in a sailing family. :). I miss it!
