It’s a Miracle!!!

Ok blogging world, I have to share a very exciting event with you!  My two sons and I are what I commonly refer to as geeks because we love anything electronic.  Our house is full of computers, iPods, iPads, digital cameras, and video gaming systems.  However, we have always fondly referred to my husband, Mike, as “technologically challenged” because until quite recently he didn’t even know how to turn a computer on.  However, bit by bit we have started to pull him over into the geek world.  I won a Dell laptop in a contest and gave it to my husband hoping that he would show some interest.  Not only does he now know how to turn it on, but he sits every night and plays his casino games that I bought him for Christmas, and he is learning how to use the internet and send emails.  Then his company gave him a fancy new smartphone, and he is actually learning how to text!!  We are still in shock!

When it came to Christmas this year, I didn’t have a clue what to get Mike.  He has all his fishing equipment and pretty much all the tools he could want.  So, what to do?  Then, to my surprise, Mike suggested that I buy him a digital camera.  HUH???  I couldn’t believe it!  I, being the geek that I am, jumped at the idea, and took him camera shopping.  We bought him a beautiful Canon point and shoot with a 14x zoom (he insisted on a lot of zoom), but since Christmas he really hasn’t even looked at it.  I was starting to wonder if it had been a silly idea.  Then this past weekend we had quite a bit of fresh snow, and on a whim I suggested that we go for a walk with our cameras through the winter wonderland behind our home.  He agreed, I showed him how to choose the snow mode for his camera, and off we went.  He did a great job for his first photo shoot, and to show how proud of him I am for moving up in the world of technology, I decided to post the very first picture he snapped.  I think it is beautifully composed, and this is straight out of the camera – no editing.  What do you think?

There are two Mike’s (one of them is my husband) that have A LOT in common. Tell your Mike that technologically challenged or not, he takes a stunning photograph!!

    • Thank you! I told him what you said and that he is now famous with all the comments and “likes” he received today. I guess my geekiness is finally wearing off on him. We will hope for the same phenomena for your husband. LOL 🙂

That is such a nice photo. I really like the snow on top of the nest 🙂

Thats some egg! Pity the poor bird that had to lay that. :o) Congrats on winning the laptop Cindy and lets hope that Mike keeps up the good work. Not a bad start at all.

    • That’s so funny – it does sort of look like an egg. That Momma bird needs to make her nest a little bigger I think!! Thanks for the congrats and for the encouragement for Mike. I sure hope he keeps it up. I’m hoping that he’s starting to believe in that old saying, “if you can’t beat them, join them”. 🙂

That’s a great shot. Now all he has to do is start a blog and he’ll be right up there with the rest of us tech savvy folks 🙂

    • Ya, I can’t see that happening! LOL Last night he was complaining that his brain couldn’t take in much more technology, so I think I’d better not push too much more on him for now. I told him that you think it is a great shot, and he says thanks!! I don’t think he believed me when I said that people would comment on it.

You have raw talent there! Tell him one blogger thinks he is a genius with that camera. I got the same one for Xmas too. No idea what “snow mode” is. He’s lucky he has you for direction.

    • Well, thank you so much for your kind comments. I try to be a good teacher, but he’s not overly patient sometimes :). There are quite a few special modes on most of the point and shoot cameras. The “snow mode” helps with the tricky brightness from a snow covered landscape where your camera tends to set the exposure for the bright areas and not for your subject, so your subject might be underexposed. I’m glad you liked his very first photo!!

I’m a geek too. And I’m surrounded by those that have no interest or desire to play with these wonderful toys. Crazy people don’t know what they are missing or will miss in the future! 🙂

  9. I see a lot of potential in his first attempt. He definitely has an eye for composition and seems to know what is going to be interesting. Definitely and impressive first attempt. I hope he has a lot of fun exploring his new pastime.

  10. Yes, he really does have a good eye for what makes a great photograph. Before he got his camera, he was always more than willing to take me out for drives so that I could look for photo ops, and he was usually the one who found the great spots. I really hope he gets into photography because he doesn’t have many hobbies, and this would be a hobby we could share. Thanks for the compliments! 🙂
